Geomatics Usability
Making Geospacial Information More Usable and Effective
People use geospacial information for a wide range of tasks, from land surveys to
population research, tracking historical trends, as backgrounds for
GPS devices and as decision support tools. Delivering the right amount
of detail in a form that a specific user will find usable is a challenge
for organizations responsible for mapping databases, web map servers
and geospacial user interfaces.
With a number of geomatics projects to our name, we know how to ensure digital maps deliver a user experience to meet a range of user needs. We have applied our DAViD approach to:
- Identify user requirements for the user interface of a national topographical database.
- Conduct user surveys, interviews and user interaction tests to advise on the web application design and interaction design of a web mapping interface for an online Atlas.
- Help developers to design the user interface for a complex and dynamically generated digital web map server.
Geomatics clients benefit from our
direct work with a full range of mapping application user segments,
from cartographers to surveyors, researchers, librarians, students
and the general public. We are also experienced with a variety of
digital maps, including thematic maps, political maps, topographical maps
and satellite images.
Our user experience research, testing and design capabilities help organizations that develop mapping applications to:
- Transform maps into effective business tools that offer thematic views of data suitable for decision support.
- Provide service to a wide range of map interface users, from cartographers and researchers to business and recreational users.
- Make the complex processes of delivering geomatics research and GIS database development as simple and accessible as possible.
