Web Application Design for Healthcare Application
Telehealth Application Provider
The Background
The client was commercializing a home healthcare web application (Telehealth) that allows health care providers to remotely conduct visits with patients through a fully interactive teleconference type environment.
Each visit allows the patient and the healthcare professional to see each other and interactively communicate. The healthcare worker can also perform a variety of remote diagnostic procedures (blood pressure, pulse, etc.) during the same session.
The Challenge
Maskery was asked to design a web application interface to handle the patient management system for the medical teleconferencing unit with all the complexity of an installed application but delivered remotely through a web browser.
The software application was to be developed by leading development outsourcer Macadamian, a strategic partner of Maskery, in a modular fashion working under a very tight deadline.
The Project
Maskery performed user requirements analysis to fully understand the needs of both the health care professionals and the users of the system within the environments which this application would be used. A task analysis was performed to categorize tasks by frequency.
Wire frame diagrams were constructed to portray navigation structures, functional components and organization of the design.
Maskery also developed the visual design and branding for the application. Rapid prototypes were built to illustrate key areas of design which were later used during user interaction testing prior to development.
The Result
Maskery was able to construct a deep understanding of the needs of patients and healthcare professionals using this type of technology and communicate this to the development team. It was discovered that instant or near-instant feedback about what is taking place during the visit, is of the utmost importance to both the healthcare professional and the patient.
Testing also revealed that unique complexities existed between small versus large care agencies.
Maskery worked closely with the client, Design1st and Macadamian to deliver a richly featured and state-of-the-art product under a potentially crushing deadline. Design1st worked to produce a very interesting but comforting hardware delivery vehicle inside the patient environment.
